Last month I asked for advice - where to have our anniversary dinner that would be a uniquely Arizona experience? (http://www.chowhound.com/topics/362914) After reading the responses, we decided to go to Lon's at the Hermosa, and we are so glad we did.
First of all, my dear SO had a dozen roses waiting for me at the table. There was also an anniversary card signed by the chef and the manager - a nice touch. The staff was courteous and competent, but not stuffy at all. The atmosphere is lovely. We had a leisurely meal and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
On to the food: For appetizers, we had the short ribs (perfectly cooked) and the lobster bisque (the lightest version I've ever tasted). We also split the Hermosa Garden salad, which was crisp and sweet, a perfect palate cleanser before our entrees. My SO had the buffalo strip steak, which he happily devoured. The tiny piece I managed to snag was wonderful. I had the monkfish, my first time trying this fish, and it was great. The fish was sweet, but the seasoning was savory enough to perfectly balance the dish. For dessert, we split the pumpkin pudding with cinnamon ice cream, on a dish adorned with an anniversary greeting.
Next year, when we are no longer in the Valley of the Sun, we'll look back at this experience and remember Arizona fondly. Thanks, Chowhounds, for making our anniversary a great one!
