A recent post on the hound board discussing Golden Buddha prompted me to reply about The Gourmet House of Hong Kong as one of my favorite places to eat Chinese. Another Poster said they had a disappointing experience there so I decided to put the food where my mouth was and have dinner at GHOHK. I was not let down.
The restaurant located at 15th St and McDowell Rd still has the dismal pink walls and pictures of boats on the wall and is a bit grimy in appearance. The specials board still intrigues me with frog legs fried in black bean sauce.
My Dining Companion and I started with Fried Pot stickers which arrived crispy, hot and not too oily. I ordered the Kung Pao plate which had scallops, shrimp, chicken and pork all done in a Flavorful "hot" sauce ( I actually had to add more spice, as I like my Chinese hot, hot, hot). He Ordered Won Ton stewed beef Noodle's for his entree and these were hands down some of the best noodles I have had in Arizona, they were actually right up there with some of the places I have eaten noodles in Vancouver, Canada. We had Hot Tea (no alcohol is served at GHOHK) our total was 30.00 with tax and tip. Next time I hope to have a bigger group so we can do a live lobster in 5 spice salt, a bargain at only 20.00 bucks, the table next to us had this dish and 4 people had leftovers it was so much food. To me this is still a gem of a place; I hope others will have just a good of an experience as I did.
