I remember reading some positive posts about Phoenix Garden, but probably over a year ago. I finally tried it Friday night and was fairly underwhelmed. We had salt and pepper shrimp which were good but not fabulous, pea shoots in crab sauce which might have been refreshing with about 75% less corn starch/chicken stock glop, and sharks fin and pork dumplings which were just ok. I'm willing to be convinced to give it a second try if anyone thinks we ordered the completely wrong things or hit it on an off night and can attest to the fact that it hasn't gone down hill.
BYO is nice, so the bill for those three dishes was only about $33, but even so, we were both kind of hungry afterwards (and neither of us are huge eaters). Oh - the tea was actually pretty good and our waiter was nice. But those two factors alone won't bring me back! There are great Sichuan places near me (Szechuan Gourmet on 39th, and to a lesser extant, the Grand Sichuan on 33rd and Wu Liang Ye on Lex at 39th), but it would be nice to have some other decent Chinese options in walking distance.
