So I know Pho Yan has been discussed on this board before (otherwise I would have never known about it - thanks!), but I just wanted to add my recommendation. We live in Arlington and have been searching for a decent vietnamese place that's not too far away. We don't like Viet Cafe in Arlington or Pho Pasteur in Harvard Square, and I've been getting by with the Vietnamese kiosk at the Super 88 for lunch sometimes. My husband and I finally tried Pho Yan in Medford Center and it is far and away the best Vietnamese we've had since we moved here. We started with the gai cuon, which were great. I had the bo bun hue, which had just the right amount of spice and a wonderful flavor. Previous versions I've had just had slow cooked brisket, but this one had pork leg (skin on) as well. My husband had the house special bun, which came with everything under the sun - shrimp, charbroiled pork, spring rolls, even shrimp paste on sugarcane. And the vinagrette that accompanied the bun was very tasty unlike some watered-down, tasteless versions we've had other places. We are so thrilled with this place and we have you to thank! We'll be back every week!
