A new Pho/Vietnamese restaurant opened on Parkway Drive in La Mesa. Went today for lunch and had the Pho Biet "Superbowl" without tripe and an iced coffee. Have only tried Pho once or twice before but this bowl seemed to be on par with the other times I have tried it. The broth was light and not very oily. Good tendon and meatballs, decent steak (none of which seemed rare) Overall, a very nice bowl of soup.
The iced coffee was very good, not too much condensed milk and fairly strong.
The restaurant is very clean and very open. The staff was extremely friendly and they brought a bowl of dessert gratis. The dessert was like a very thin rice pudding - almost Horchada-like.
They have a short menu with only 42 choices - pho, bun bo hue, com and bun dishes and spring, egg and spam (!) rolls. Pho is about $5 for a regular and $6.50 for the superbowl. They offer vegetable/tofu pho as well. A welcome addition to the neighborhood.
I dont have kids, but I loved that the first offering on the Kid's Meal is Rare Steak Rice noodle soup - definitely not dumbed down for them!
