Pho Hung and Sun Wah Outing

Today I had a couple of hours free and went to the Argyle strip for lunch and to pick up a duck for dinner.

I had previously only been to Pho 888 and was not at all inspired by the beef ball yellow noodle.

As soon as I walked into Pho Hung I picked up a good hound vibe and was excited to order. I ordered Pho Tai Nam, rare beef with beef brisket and an iced coffee.

When the soup arrived, the aroma was so rich and complex. The Thai basil was fragrant and the bean sprouts very firm. I doctored up the soup and made a salt/lime slurry in the small dipping dish. (Another hound in a old post suggested this and it is a brilliant idea!)

I was absolutely knocked over by the quality of the broth. The beef was not exactly rare, so perhaps next time I will emphasize that I want the beef rare. There definitely will be a next time - soon.

Afterwards, I crossed the street and picked up a whole roast duck to go from Sun Wah for $11 even. The scent of the duck filled my car for the ride home, and I couldn't resist sampling it right away. It was very juicy and nearly all the fat had rendered into the meat, leaving behind a tasty skin. The sauce provided is sweet with cinnamon and really brings out the flavor of the duck.

So a great hound outing for me today and I thought I'd just thank the board collectively for great guidance. To then come home and read about the financial situation, I was inspired to donate like so many of us.

Anyone have any suggestions as to other standouts at Pho Hung or other Pho places with a broth that could even approach the broth at Hung??
