Husband and I went to Pho So 1 in Dorchester (adams and dorchester ave, next to the Citizens bank) tonight. We'd been meaning to go for awhile, but we get stuck in our Pho 2000 routine and it's hard to break.
A delicious pot of iced green tea greeted us at table. We ordered Nem Coun (spring rolls), Goi Vit (lettuce mixed with sliced duck), Pho Bo Vien, and Pho Tai Bo Vien.
The soups were delicious. The broth in both was superb: fresh, and heavy on the star anise, just the way we like it. The bo vien were large and plenitful with great texture and flavor. All of the standard accompaniments were very fresh too.
The duck was steamed and arranged atop a salad of julienne carrots, cabbage, herbs, and peanuts, with the standard goi dressing. Fine, but not something I'd go out of way to order again, the Goi Cuon at 2000 and Hoa are much better.
The absolute star of the meal was the Nem Cuon. The best way to describe it is a fried spring roll wrapped in a fresh spring roll. Husband and I declared it the best spring roll we'd ever tasted, a startling declaration for my filipino husband whose eaten many an egg roll in his time. Go to this restaurant one and all and order this dish!!
We finished the meal with boba drinks, a mungbean smoothie for him and a thai tea bobs for me. We left sated and happy. This one is a winner.
