PhillyChowhound needs Toronto advice

I'm going to Toronto for 4 days and would like to try as much of the local food as possible. Nothing ethnic (no Indian, Chinese, Polish, French, Italian, etc.), just traditional Canadian food. I spend about 6 months out of the year living in Europe and Asia, so I've pretty much tried all the ethnic cuisines in their authentic forms. Just pure Canadian please. Whatever the local specialties are would be great. I read something about butter tarts and peameal bacon...

Also nothing expensive. About $40 Canadian per person at most, preferably less But if you think there is a certain restaurant which is a must do when in Toronto, I would be willing to spend over $100 CDN per person.

From scanning through the archives so far I have found the St Lawrence Market and College Street. What else would you recommend?

Thank you for your replies in advance. I'm actually flying out pretty soon (Thursday morning) so I hope I get your replies in time.

Thanks again,
JamesPhilly
