Phillippe's the Original-since it's been mentioned lately

The other day while wandering around the Chinatown/Union Station area, we came to that moment where a hound must choose banh mi or french dip. Cafe sua da or a 9 cent cuppa joe. Custard tart or custard cup with nutmeg. But some days you just need a bit of sawdust under your feet (or Rauschenberg's combines get you a bit nostalgic for grandpa's faded woodshop), so you march right down those steps into Phillippe's.

A beef sandwich that gets all gooshy where the dip of jus meets the bread- sort of like an Italian beef without the spices (although I understand many hounds prefer the lamb), a dab of fierce mustard, a light, jiggly custard, some lemonade, an old fashioned iced tea which hasn't been poisoned with "passion fruit" flavor.

Ahh....much better. Bonus: scored a fresh head-on/feet-on young brown chicken from Shang Lee's poultry just before they locked the doors.
