Philadelphia Flower Show/Restaurant Report - As Promised - Long

Just got back from the Flower Show, which was spectacular with beautiful floral displays and breathtaking exhibits. Our original plans were to arrive Sunday and have dinner that night but as we decided to get there Saturday, we needed another restaurant. We went to two fantastic places and had it not been for you guys I'd never have known about them. Saturday night went to La Locanda Del Ghiottone. We shared a gnocchi appetizer which was delicious and had lots of flavor, for the main course my friend had the seafood risotto and I had the osso bucco. Both dishes were excellent and we were given large amounts of food for a very reasonable cost. We were also able to bring our own wine which kept the cost down. Sunday night we ate at Valanni. For appetizers my friend had cuban bread, avocado and black olive salad and I had the steamed Prince Edward Island mussels that came with smoked chorizo in a garlic broth. Not only were these some of the sweetest mussels I've ever had but the broth that came with it was a delicious soup and I couldn't stop eating it. My friend had the black sesame crusted ahi tuna which was perfectly cooked and warm throughout, which is not always easy to achieve when its ordered medium rare, it was fabulous. I had the maple-walnut crusted duck breast and that too was perfectly cooked and tasted wonderful. For dessert we shared the caramelized black rum bananas. My friend said it was the best dessert she'd ever tasted. Both these restaurants were very different from each other and I would highly recommend them both without hesitation. I also want to thank everyone for their suggestions and let you know that we loved Philadelphia - its such a wonderful city, there's so much to see and do and I can't wait to go back again. Many thanks.
