Strange (suspicious?) news story out of southern France this week:
A woman tried to check out at a supermarket in Périgueux with two bottles of Pétrus. But she had stuck bar codes from some cheap sparkling wine on the bottles so the total was 5 euros instead of… 4,600 euros!
I'm amazed that bottles worth over 2000 euros are even available at this supermarket, and that they are apparently just sitting on the shelf for shoppers to help themselves. The article quotes a police source saying, "Even if you're not a wine expert, come on, everyone knows Pétrus". I'm not so sure about that… Anyway, hats off to the cashier for spotting the scam.
