Petra has been recommended several times for a good and inexpensive bite in SLO.

Let me offer an outsider's update from my visit in November 2018. I stopped here for a quick lunch on a sunny 76-degree afternoon. Petra is a fast-casual, counter service place. Soon my food followed me to my shaded table.

What lured me in here is the tri-tip. Yep, that’s right. Petra marinates slices of our signature Central Coast beef cut, stacks it up as a cone, then broils it on the gyro rotisserie to make tritip shawarma. And it’s delicious, tender and juicy with a little fatty trim stuffed into the fluffy house baked pita. The sandwich is dressed with tahin sauce, lettuce and tomatoes plus a dab of the fiery housemade Shatta hot sauce and tzatziki.

I added a side of falafel. These are chickpea-based and fried to order. Nice crunchy crusting with some sesame seed richness but I prefer more fresh green herbs in the mix.

The staff were great, checking on me a couple times to see if I needed more condiments or wanted to order anything else.
