Petite Sara for breakfast...

Jeff Shore | Mar 20, 200203:24 PM

Driving to the post office a few weeks ago, I found what seemed to be a new cafe in a not-entirely restaurant friendly section of Pico (in between Crescent Heights & Fairfax). Talking to the owner, however, I learned that Petite Sara has actually been there around 11 years. Wow.

We had breakfast there this morning. It's really more of a bakery than a full-fledged restaurant. Rickety tables in a rather cramped space inside, all disposable dishware/flatware, and most irkingly, customers are not allowed to use the plainly visible bathroom (which is in the back of the bakery).

Coffee: awesome. Hyper-strong, Urth caffe reminiscent.

Omelettes: Above average. Very thin, with filling inside. My goat cheese & sun dried tomato was good, as was my wife's veggie.

Bread: Verge of greatness. Rosemary and wheat. Crusty, crunchy, sour, vibrant, distinctive. I'd encourage people to try the rest of their baked goods...

Probably wouldn't return to hang out, but it's a nice place to pick something up...
