I also took my friend to Read Doner, which she enjoyed. My family loves Paradise Sushi, which isn't super foodie but is fun and a great value. Anna's Seafood is amazing for fresh sashimi grade fish (they are often at the Saturday farmer's market here but haven't been the weeks I've gone this year).
For outside Petaluma...because of the timing of her visit, we missed the Saturday Petaluma farmer's market so we went to the Sunday San Rafael market at the Civic Center, which I'd never been to but has been on my list for years. Wow! Amazing. Even though we got there really late and people were packing up and sold out. We still got boat loads of stuff at excellent prices. I bought 4 huge bunches of dill for $2 each and made nearly a gallon of dill pesto. Today she's flying home from OAK so we're planning an early dinner at Cafe Eritrea D'Afrique in Oakland.
Do you know about The Bagel Mill? A Petaluma bakery set to open any day now. Real bagels, parve challah, etc. It's not kosher or anything but it does look authentic. I look forward to trying it. It's on Western at the end of the building that houses Petaluma Market.
