Pescadero – Harley Farms – The goat shop is open Sat/Sun

This is the first time I visited the store at the farm. There were samples of all of their products. This is the goat cheese with the pretty flowers (pictures in link below). The flowers and herbs are grown in their garden.

Usually markets just don’t handle this brand of cheese correctly. Until today, the best Harley Farms cheese that I tried was at the Half Moon Bay farmers market where Harley has a stand and the cheese is fresh from the farm.

Highly, highly recommended the Chevre in Oil (8 oz. Jar) - Plain Mini Buttons marinated in Extra Virgin Olive Oil & Lemon Juice, with Sundried Tomato,
Rosemary & Peppercorns.

This is just so elegant. I asked about how long it would keep and was told about a year in the refrigerator.

They also had mini cheeses for $2 and the apricot with a layer of pistachio was just excellent. I’m sorry now that I didn’t get one in each flavor. especially after reading the health benefits of goat cheese on the website.

I never knew they also carried goat milk ricotta, feta and Fromage Blanc (in three flavors: Tomato Basil, Plain, & Garlic Herb).

The rounds include basil/sunflower (called Van Goat … get it … sunflowers), Herbs de Provence (Monet), sun-dried tomato/basil, and cranberry walnut. The cheese logs come in pepper, chive, dill and plain. The dill was my favorite.

One of the things that surprised me was that the cheese was not refrigerated, none of it. They were fabulously creamy at room temperature.

It is also lovely to see the goats grazing right next to the shop. There is also info on the website about the farm tours where they say you can “Mingle with the goats, ogle our edible flower garden, tour the cheese making facilities, milk a goat and even make your own cheese”

They don’t mention it on the site, but I think they make goat cheese ravioli. One woman was inquiring about ordering some..

Buried on the site is the following “Our old hayloft, refurbished into a majestic rustic dining room is available for private events” It is at the bottom of the “Our Farm” link.

Great website with pictures and info about the cheese, farm and shop. If you click on the flowers at the top of the page, it explains which flowers they use with pictures
