I refer to Perry's Deli, downtown on Franklin b/t Randolph and Lake. Several months ago, when Perry sold the place to Boris, I began to see a sharp decline in the quality of the roast beef used in the sandwiches - namely, it was no longer red 'n rare, but (gasp) pale pink and even (horrors!) GRAY. As I was a habitual consumer of only one item - the "Frenchy's Fantasy" (roast beef, lettuce, tomato, bacon, russian dressing and cheddar (substituted for the Swiss described in the menu) on rye) - I could not abide this development and sadly removed Perry's from my "lunch rotation."
But my craving for overstuffed deli sandwiches remains, and I'm not aware of any other suitable places for them in the Loop. 1. Has Perry's returned to form? Does anyone have any recent experiences? 2. Am I missing any Loop delis I can try at lunch? I work at Michigan & Randolph, but often meet a friend who works at Dearborn & Adams, so we want to stay south of the river.
Many thanks in advance.
