Is it possible to permanently damage a stainless steel pot? I, inadvertently, left a pot of water on for way, way too long. It was boiled dry. Unfortunately, I did this twice this month with the same pot. Now its interior is dark and discolored and feels rough to the touch instead of the usual smooth, bright surface. No matter how much elbow grease and baking soda, it looks pretty bad.
I've burned many a pot, but this is the first time where I've had no luck in restoring the pot to its prior state. Is it possible that I have somehow managed to destroy the inside of my stainless steel pot? Will Bar Keeper's Friend even work?
On the plus side, the outside looks normal, no discoloration or damage. The inside is another story.
