Perigee - report

An excellent experience last night at Perigee. Four of us had the 7 course "trust me" menu and two of the party went with wine pairings.

All agreed the experience was very enjoyable. Service was friendly, but knowledgeable. Not a drop of "attitude" or undue reverence. A place you could unwind with friends while having a first-rate meal.

Each course of the tasting brought two options (and dessert brought four!), so with sharing, we all got to sample many, many courses. Too many to describe in detail. But I will say there was excellent variety of taste, texture, and presentation.

Highlights were a miniature mushroom "pot pie" and barely-seared ahi tuna wrapped around fois gras with truffles. Wow!

Desserts also all pleased enormously. The people who had the wine pairings found them occasionally off-beat, but appropriate.

Nothing knocked us off our feet, but on the other hand, there wasn't a single dish to find fault with, which is rare. If we had one complaint it was that the "main", when it finally arrived was not markedly more substantial than some of the courses that preceeded it. A bit more "heft" in that course would have been appreciated. (Not that we left hungry. It's more a psychological

7 courses with wine, $155. You can also opt for 5 or 6 courses, and without wine, they start at $80.

We would definitely go there again. One caveat. The room can be slightly drafty, depending on where you sit, so come prepared.

Otherwise, hooray. Finally, a great place to eat in The Distillery District.
