PERFECT apple crisp recipe: does it even exist?

Hi everyone! First post on here after much lurking of this site!

Okay so Super Bowl Sunday is this weekend and I have volunteered to bring an apple crisp. Firstly, I LOVE apple crisp. It's always been my favorite. I like a thick crispy yet slightly chewy topping. I also like MUSHY apples, which means I am apparently in the minority.

In the past, I have the Fruit Crisp recipe from America's Test Kitchen as my "go-to" but there are no oats in the topping and I LOVE the oats. However, I remember not even realizing that the topping lacked oats until months later when I looked back on the recipe! The recipe also calls for McIntosh apples but I have TONS of Granny Smith so I was trying to use only those.

I could have sworn that the old fruit crisp recipe I used(circa 2012) had orange zest and orange juice, but neither are called for in the ATK fruit crisp recipe on the site.

I've googled "best apple crisp recipe" and now I'm overwhelmed. I want this dessert to be liked by everyone, NOT just me. So perhaps I should just use the ATK recipe? I feel like they're the experts and I have never had a recipe of theirs fail me...
