Pepperidge Farm Puff Pastry Sheets - Burnt!

amnicr | Nov 24, 201406:43 AM

Trying to figure out what I did wrong yesterday when I was preparing a early Thanksgiving meal for friends. I made a turkey stuffed strudel using Pepperidge Farm Puff Pastry... sprayed 2 baking sheets, had the oven at 400 degrees per the recipe instructions. Popped them in and within maybe 10-15 minutes, a fire had started in my oven (due to an unrelated rogue piece of stuffing).

We took out the pastries in a panic to see if they were on fire (they weren't) but the bottoms were charred black. 100%, completely. I was supposed to be waiting for a golden-brown top, which never came. So we took care of the tiny fire and opened some windows, then tried cutting off the burnt bottoms. I put down some parchment paper and we tried baking again a little longer. Still no luck. Stuff was just burning and they turned out looking horrible.

Didn't taste awful but some of the dough may have been a bit undercooked. Any ideas on what I did wrong?
