I've read several posts that say soybean oil (usually labeled as 'vegetable oil') has a neutral flavor. In my personal experience, and talking about the oil with some foodie friends, I find it's gross. Canola and avocado oil have quite neutral flavors. I think sunflower oil also does. I've fried in peanut oil myself and I find that tastes great.
When I eat something that's been fried in soybean oil I still have a leftover taste in my mouth the next day, even after brushing my teeth twice.
KFC, Burger King, Carl's Jr. (in the USA), all use soybean oil and it makes their shit gross. Popeye's apparently uses lard - delicious. McDonald's uses Canola/Soybean blend I think - less delicious but less gross.
Why do people think soybean oil has a neutral flavor??
