Amelie, that tiny little 4-table cafe on Armenian Street, served probably the best pasta dishes I'd tasted in Penang. Small in size, but huge in charm, everything which came out of the kitchen was simple but super-fresh.
- Linguine with Genovese pesto sauce & a pan-fried pork sausage. The pinenuts-basil sauce was light, complemented by perfect al dente pasta. The pork sausage was superfluous here, but delicious nonetheless;
- Spaghetti carbonara - the beautiful aroma of bacon cooking which wafted out of the tiny open kitchen had us salivating for this dish even before it made it to the table. Absolutely perfect!
- Spaghetti Aglio Olio - another well-executed dish, spiked with chillis. Amelie's chef certainly knew where his strengths lie - his pasta dishes were all prepared to perfection.
This is definitely a good place to come for good, simple pasta dishes when in Penang.
We tried some of their lassi drinks - the banana-lime was a bit too sour for ouir taste, and the orange one seemed too diluted, but the lychee version was good.
