Yee Heong is one of a handful of traditional Chinese eateries in the old commercial/retail quarter of Georgetown that opens very early in the morning to serve dim sum for breakfast (the others are Tho Yuen @ Campbell Street, Aik Hoe @ Carnarvon Street, Tai Tong @ Cintra Street, Yong Pin @ Jln Sungai Ujong and Leong Kee @ Kimberley Street).
Yee Heong also offers a large menu of cooked dishes for those looking for a more substantial breakfast - fried noodles, stewed pork's leg in vinegar, etc.
I tasted the best "lor mai kai" (steamed glutinous rice with marinated chicken, Chinese pork sausage, and shitake mushroom) of all the dim sum restaurants I'd tried in Georgetown here at Yee Heong - redolent of ginger juice, Shaoxing wine, oyster sauce, soysauce and a hint of sesame oil in the meat marinade. Don't miss this dish.
Yee Heong has lots of other tasty morsels to choose from: "har-gow" with crunchy shrimps, varieties of pork-shrimp dumplings with carrot or peas, "char-siu"-filled buns, steamed pork-ribs with black-beans, tofu stuffed with minced pork, steamed buns filled with sweet lotus-paste, and lots more.
Yee Heong is located opposite the historic Campbell Street market, before the intersection with Carnarvon Street and Buckingham Street.
