Peking Duck find on Long Island (Farmingville, NY)

Quite by accident, a friend of mine ran across what is possibly the best Peking Duck on Long Island at the TO FU Chinese & Japanese Restaurant, 1260 Waverly Avenue, Farmingville (631-698-6550). Listed on the menu as "CRISPY DUCK", other than the name, what is so unusual about the Peking Duck here? Well for one thing, you don't have to order it in advance (1 to 24 hours in most establishments). Just place your order and in 10 minutes you're greasing on hot succulent duck pancakes. Served the traditional way with THIN pancakes and julianned cucumber and shaved scallion. And homemade hoisen! You get just enough meat for 3 pancakes (you can make them yourself as I do, or the waitstaff will prepare them for you). And did I mention SKIN, very CRISPY SKIN, and LOTS of it! Oh, yeah! I've had the duck now about ten times inside of two weeks and it was fresh, moist and flavorful, each time. Consistent, unusually so. They do a great job trimming the fat too! While your there try the Pork fried dumpling (8). The dumpling sauce is inedible, so you may want to bring your own, from another restaurant perhaps (that's what I do). They are the best I've ever tasted. The pork fried rice contains egg and is also the best I've had in the New York area. Beware of the steamed shrimp siu mai though, it's downright nasty. I'm continuing to explore the TO FU menu. With duck that good, there's got to be more where that came from. No rush, the place has been there about 30 years. Take Exit 62N off I495. In 1/2 mi, get off at CR16 (Portion Road, eastbound). Restaurant is one-tenth mile on left.
