I bought some alfredo sauce at Garden of Eden about a month ago - it tasted like it was on the verge of souring (like milk - in fact I thought it might have been the cream). I bought some reggianito tonight and it smells just barely sour. I know some cheese have scents that we might label as rancid.
I've made pasta carbonara using pecorino - which doesn't have a sour smell.
Is it my nose or is it the reggianito that's a bit off?
