Just got back from a food trip to DC. One of the things that amazed me was the quality of the seafood. I think it's better than what you get here on average. The one exception was salmon. Salmon was decent there, but it wasn't like Copper River salmon or even a nice piece of troll caught Chinook.
The biggest surprised for me was crab. I generally loathe crab. My wife sometimes gets it and I've had it at nice restaurants both here and in Dallas and it's always been rather inedible to me. But everywhere I tasted it in DC it was edible and in some preparations actually good. What's up with that?
Is it a freshness thing? I won't order things like mahi mahi in Portland because it just can't compare with Hawaii. Or am I just getting unlucky in Portland?
Anyway, you can see the attached link if you want to see my DC report. Very good quality food, had the same casual feel as Portland, and not much more expensive.
