[PDX] Saigon Kitchen...

Had a very disappointing meal at Saigon Kitchen tonight. The menu is a mix of Vietnamese, Chinese, and Thai dishes. I had the hot pot. My wife has the pad thai. The pad thai was probably acceptable, but not good. Peanuty, but not really in a good way. Mush tofu, imo. The hot pot was really pretty bad. It was a bunch of stir-fried vegetables, mainly mushrooms, on top of some rice, in a clay pot, with a variety of meats. I think this is the sort of kitchen sink special that Tony Bourdain warns about in Kitchen Confidential. The shrimp tasted freezer-burned to me, moldy to my wife.

Not a good experience. Makes me not want to go anywhere but Pho Van. But I'll keep exploring. The things I do for chow and chowhound.....
