[PDX] Portland Best Places (the book)...

Nick | Mar 26, 200304:36 PM

I don't know how many have this book, but I've been through a couple editions now since I moved to Portland at the end of the last millenium (sounds like a long time ago, doesn't it). It's easily the best guide to Portland. I use it for all kinds of stuff and has learnt me some goodins including the farmer's markets, restaurants, specialty grocers, etc. It has a lot more, too, and excellent descriptions from people who seem like they've actually been there (whereas with Mobil, AAA, Fodor's, etc, I often find myself scoffing at their descriptions and recommendations). I now own several of them, including the Seattle, San Francisco, and Northwest editions. They're a regional bookseller and only cover from Alaska to Baja, I think.

Anyway, I've been very pleased with them and would highly suggest a purchase for anyone new to Portland or who feels like they haven't really gotten to know much of Portland and don't have more experienced people to guide them.
