Based on some reccomendations from this site, and a few others, my partner and I dined at Carlyle last week. This was our first meal there, although we had been to the bar on previous occasions. I felt compelled to share our experience as it was singularly one of the best dining experiences I've had in Portland.

The food was incredible; complex flavors, and artfull presentations, but bottom line, just damn tasty!
The service had that "well-oiled-machine" quality to it; attentive but seemingly effortless.

I think what I like best about Carlyle is just the feel of the place. It's high-end, but it doesn't feel like a scene, and we both felt that compared to restaurants in the same price range ($$$+), Carlyle is far superior. We have a long list of new restaurants we've yet to try, but thanks in part to the recccomendations on this site, Carlyle is now on our short list for return visits.
