Pdx bkfst recommendation/no weekend wait

J.J.M. | Jul 3, 200401:18 PM

Have had two terrific but too big breakfasts at Small World Cafe -- and no weekend wait! They appear to make everything fresh, even their tortillas. Small World (I think that's the name) is at Albina and Alberta, in the back of Big City Produce, which is half a block from the back of Jefferson High School. Hardly anyone there, another plus on weekends, and they have outside tables in the little park space in front.

The potatoes could be more interesting but they were crunchy outside and soft inside. Very big fresh jalapeno corn muffin was very good. The place is pretty empty, at least 9/10 a.m. when I have gone. Creative menu, vegan options, very reasonable prices. And, while in the NE, I tried the heralded Gravy on Mississippi a couple of weeks ago and found it a yawn. We also went there for a drink and the only wines they served were Gallo products -- extremely disappointed about that since I try to "shop my talk" and don't buy their wines (brand names are all different, but they are made by Gallo.)
