Finally got out to -- and found -- Apna Bazaar yesterday. Not easy. Make sure you mapquest it, then it's in building #6. It's over by the huge Dania and Krispy Kreme off Cornell.
Pictures linked below. (Took many more than came out.)
Certainly seems to be the best Indian market in Portland. Still not a great one, but it's pretty decent. The weakest section seems to be the produce. But they make up for it a little with a good freezer section that includes lots of veggies.
The freezer breads are easily the biggest selection I've seen in town, both pre-cooked and uncooked. Better selection of dals and flours, too.
Prices seem good, especially for spices, of course. Anyone need 2 lbs of cardamon? What about 5 lbs of madras curry powder?
They had a little table in the back with a lady serving up chaat, too. Didn't try anything, but it looked decent.
Did get myself a Pakola, an "ice cream soda". Tasted like a cream soda with rosewater and maybe cardamon and other spices. I very much enjoyed it. I thought it was better than most of the commercial Indian ice creams I've had.
