Ok, I am outing myself here - I was the chef @ Zefiro back in the late 90's, and so am relatively familiar with SOME of the current PDX restaurant scene. But now that I have a 4 year old daughter, we need some help finding the restaurants that all of us will like. Any parents out there?
We are in town next week for a conference, and will have a car. We plan to hit all the usual kid highlights (OMSI, zoo, children's museum, the train by the Japanese Garden), and we will be HUNGRY!
Our wish list:
*Open thru midday, ie we can go there at 3:00 and still be fed.
* Organic, if possible. No Sysco factories. Low on the fried food quotient
* Vegetables. Please. Vegetables. This seems to be the hardest thing to find, a place that will make a side of cooked veggies for a kid.
Kid-friendly is not such a big deal, my daughter has been travelling with us for years, and knows to use an "inside voice", is well supplied with amusements for waiting, and actually loves to go to restaurants and try new things.
We hated Peanut Butter and Ellie's - nasty dressing from a bottle and shriveled up bits of carrots, no organic milk, etc. Daughter thought it was "stupid"
Love starting out the day at Pearl Bakery. Would love bakery / chocolate store recs, as these types of places are nice treats after a day of play.
We are staying downtown, so points for stuff within walking distance (say, Pearl District). Also really appreciate recs near to above mentioned attractions, and any additional tips for kid activities.
