"PB&J" at Hawthorne Lane

Last night I was taken out on a first date (yup, a first) to Hawthorne Lane. I wasn't sure how it was going to be, as that is a lot of pressure, big food, and lots of wine. But everything turned out beautifully. I was in one of those moods where I was too tired and not so hungry, so I just let my date order what he wanted and we shared everything.

They have a "PB&J" sandwhich which consists of oatmeal bread toasted. One side spread with housemade huckleberry jelly, one with housemade peanut butter (chunky style, like I like it). In the middle is a perfectly warm and smooth and quite large sized foie gras lobe. They served it with pickled onions and cukes, which only served to increase the mouth-waterningness of the dish. I cannot tell you that if my mom had served this type of pb & j when i grew up, I would be a fat and happy person today.

We also had the duck buns, which were fine, nothing special. they sent an amuse of beef carpaccio, potatoe salad and horseradish aoili. we had a veal meatball and housemade parpardelle, pine nut and spinach pasta. they offered many of their mains in half portions. this was good tough the meatballs were spiced too much for the dish. took away from the sauce itself.

we had some other stuff too but i remember the st. agur blue cheese to be mind blowing stuff so much so that for someone who "isn't really into cheese" i salivated the entire time I ate it.
