Pazo: Then and Now

KAZ | Mar 11, 2005 10:21 AM

I went to Pazo the first week or so it opened, sat at the bar on a Saturday night and had a few plates. Of the five plates I had, I thought 2 were sub par (the potatoes in duck fat and a fish dish), two were good but not extraordinary (the salumi plate and the pugilese bread) and the fifth was very good (the yogurt dessert). Being intimately familiar with the Foreman/Wolfe reputation, I wanted to give it another shot to really impress me.

That chance came last night when my girl friend took me out to dinner for my birthday (no, no need to feel guilty about not send a card or gift, you had no way of knowing). We ordered the Grand Table for Two. I am glad to report, everything was fantastic. The highlight might have been the veal cheeks which I think dissolved somewhere between plate and mouth. The shrimp with tomato and garlic and the cheese plates were both close seconds. Really, really good. The only average plate was again the fish. It was overcooked and bland.

I noticed that a lot of the menu items have changed. They did a great job of weeding out what didn’t work and have added some great new stuff. IMPORTANT: they have not updated their website, it still contains the old menu. So if you have been waiting for some new plates to show up, the wait is over.
