I often wonder if Virbila resides on the same planet as I do, as her recent LA Times review suggests Patina is something extraordinary.
On the contrary, my recent group lunch experience was anything but. Our menu started with a salad of greens, raw and braised vegetables with a citrus vinaigrette. Veggies were fresh, but the dressing had absolutely no flavor whatsoever. The main dish was a free range chicken with "autumn baby root casserole". It turns out to be a single chicken breast with a nicely crispy skin served in a bowl over carrots, potatoes, and some sort of brussel sprout, with a watery light brown reduction sauce (a watery foam maybe?) forming a sad puddle at the bottom. Dessert was something out of the movie Zoolander -- a single stuffed crepe of a creamy vegetable compote cut into 3 small pieces with a tiny scoop of pistachio-tasting ice cream served on a large plate
To be fair, service was good, but they have a terrible policy for group events. We ended up 10 people short for our event and they refused to offer the difference in gift certificates, so we had to order the balance of our no-show party's tab as food to go or get cookbooks(?!) I really did not like this because we ended up wasting 10 orders of food. Really do not see why I couldn't get gift certificates as either way, they got our money. I will never consider this place again.
