Pastadells (sp?) Italian cookie

dunard2 | Dec 24, 201006:17 AM

Not sure if this is the "real" name of this cookie/pastry, or just what my family called them. I'm hoping someone knows these!

These Christmastime treats were a chocolate-based filling, sandwiched between dough, and then fried. They would come out looking a bit "flying saucer" like. The filling was a combination of chocolate, filberts, chestnuts, pears (for moisture), and perhaps a bit of coffee or espresso, and vodka.

I remember that these were a huge production to make -- my family would make these assembly line style and my uncle and grandfather would fry them in the garage!

Does anyone know these and have the recipe?? Thanks!
