Pasta Plus report

Steve | Jun 21, 2004 12:47 PM

A rare trip to Laurel to visit the Patuxent Wildlife Refuge had me thinking about this venerable institution which even got some play on the Food Network a while back.

They don't open until 4pm, although you can eat lunch in their Market area before then. Wish I had taken that option.

There was a wait to get in. Nothing too onerous. And then we waited about an hour to get our food. I'll assume this second wait was unusual. But I can tell you that for some pasta and pizza, it was definitely not worth the it. Pasta is ok at best. Their red sauce ('filet de pomodoro' style) is very good. Napolitan pizza comes out with a beautiful crust, but is stinky from hickory wood smoke. Inedible. A plate of asparagus with a chunky vinaigrette was delicious. There is a small listing of meat dishes, but we didn't try any of those.
