party of 20 in sf Chinatown

Michaelinsf | Nov 30, 2005 11:09 PM

A friend left a voice mail asking for suggestions on where to eat in San Francisco Chinatown this Saturday for a group of "almost" 20 people.

I have eaten at Gold Mountain and know that they have an upstairs banquet room, as do the 4 Seas and others (Kan's? Grand Palace? Miriwa?)

Any suggestions or comments?

I would especially like to know which places you can avoid being treated like a tourist from Iowa if you and your group are non Chinese appearing and non Chinese speaking

(I had a wretched meal with a large group of people at the Empress of China many years ago, which was too bad because I had previously been to their cooktail lounge and really enjoyed it. Another time more recently on a Sunday night my wife son and I went to the Golden Dragon for a late night snack and the waiter tried to steer us to the obvious tourist fare. That's the type of place I would not recommend.)

Thanks for whatever response you can give.
