During a long, long walk north on Fifth Avenue the other day I noticed a couple things. First, Al Di La is soon to expand into another dining room, on the opposite end of the kitchen from the current one (that is, west on Carroll Street down from Fifth Avenue), and about the same size. Second, the big flatiron building on the north side of Flatbush Avenue at (I think) Sterling Place, which used to be an old-school lighting store, is being recreated as what the building permit describes as an "eating and drinking establishment." It will have lots of big windows onto Flatbush. No further enlightenment from the workers. How soon? Can't be sure. All the drywall is up, and the appliances were in the kitchen, though not yet installed. It could be weeks, or like Belleville, decades.
