Paris trip planning advice

Need help for a trip to Paris that I’m planning for my family. We’re looking at going during either the school winter or spring break. So the trip would be at Christmas/New Years or the last two weeks of March. Reading some other threads about dining around the year end holidays, it looks like some restaurants close. We want to dine out a fair amount and don’t want to run into a bunch of closed places. We are also interested in shopping at the markets and making our own meals. What I would like to find out is given the choice between the two times, what people think would be the better time to go? Also we plan on renting an apartment while we are there and want to be in a neighbourhood that has good markets and restos but is convenient to some of the more touristy attractions. Any recommendations? I’ve been to Paris several times for business and my wife was over once before but this will be our first family trip. Thanks in advance for your advice.
