This upcoming Sat I am taking a good friend to Paris for the day. He has never been before, so you can appreciate the enormity of the challenge in front of me in trying to convey the essence of Paris in less than 12 hours (arrive 10:23 on Eurostar and depart 19:19).
As we have a pretty hefty touring schedule (and no opportunity for dinner), the gastronomic wonder that is Paris must be distilled to a few takeout items and lunch (and a quick lunch at that).
I would appreciate any thoughts people have on where to dine for lunch, given the following criteria.
1. We will not be dressed for formal dining -- casual attire is a must.
2. We cannot spend three hours at the table.
3. I would prefer classic French cuisine.
4. The restaurant must be close to a not to be missed tourist attraction (such as the Louvre).
Some of my initial thoughts are La Fontaine de Mars and Le Dauphin, knowing both are likely to be open for Saturday lunch.
Any other suggestions?
