There are two place that I have been patronizing regularly over the years that seem to avoid most lists and are worth a visit. One is Darkoum, a reliable Moroccan place, off rue des Petites Champs, 44 rue Sainte-Anne, 75002 Paris 01-42 96 83 76, 42 96 59 97, near the Bourse and the old Bibliotheque Nationale on the parallel rue de Richelieu. The other is La Ferme St-Simon, 6 rue de Saint-Simon, 75007 Paris, 01-45-48-35-7, close to the rue de Bac. Both are reasonably priced, offering a wide variety of excellent dishes. I have always found the service at Darkoum to be helpful and the ambiance relaxing. The bastille, tagines and grilled meats are excellent as the more conventional couscous. La Ferme St-Simon can be hectic at lunch, but dinner time is quieter. Last year I had a satisfyingly smoky cassoulet there. Les Bookinistes and Astier which seem to command more attention I have found disappointing, though the latter is good value. Happy eating.
