That was my sixth time in Paris. It was more of a gastronomical trip so we got lots of food. We lost one day due to the gilet jaunes . We had lunch at L'Astrance, Guy Savoy and dinner at Auberge Bressane and Le relais de l entrecote (which i keep revisiting).
Guy Savoy (met him in person) was good, the red mullet and the wagyu are recommended but the artichoke soup did not live up to my expectations.
L'Astrance was great, amazing food and wine, good value for money. You can check my link below for full review and photos. The cod with Japanese rice was stunning as also the challans duck one of the best I have ever had. What surprised me was the fact they didn’t give any receipt rather than just a handwritten paper with the sum of our order. Also they charged the menu at 100 Euros per person instead of the 95 pp written on the menu. ( :S ) not a big deal, just strange.
I tried a lot of patisserie take away pastries, about 27 of them. Grolet's fruits and tarts are amazing, just go as early as possible after the opening. My favorite was a rose religieuse from Carl Marletti, a bit away from the most touristy areas but well worth it. Baba au rum and butter caramel eclair from Stohrer were also amazing. Francois Perret's pastries at the Ritz were the most pleasing to the eyes but didn’t taste equally.
Finally Auberge Bressane. I made a booking after I read here that it makes the best white sauce chicken. It was very good but what spoiled our evening was the coq au vin. Arrived in a pot with wine sauce pasta and mushrooms It could be good if only the meat was not blue greenish on top. After having eaten some of it, and letting the waitress know she seemed very surprised, told the other waitress about it and then the chef. The chef told this is due the strong wine that the rooster was cooked in. Have you seen anything like this? You can check on the photo below. I cook many many years and eat a lot but never seen anything like this.
