I used to eat at a little restaurant long ago in Paris, owned by two sisters who made wonderful sweetbreads. Last night I ate a marvellous sweetbread dish with wild mushrooms just like the sisters made, at La Crepe Cafe in Palm Springs in the Smoketree Shopping Center at Sunrise and Hiway lll. The owners are just back from a three month vacation in France and were as gracious as ever and had a lengthy menu to offer - several fish dishes, Lotte, salmon, bouillabaise plus steak, lamb shank, lamb rack. My partner had coq au vin which was very very good. My dish was sublime, packed with mushrooms, a velvety sauce and little dabs of individually cooked vegetables - squash, gratin potatoes, string beans, carrots and broccoli. I asked for a spoon to finish the gravy. Split a designer greens salad with red peppers and a creme brulet. The owner was moaning that he reopened last Wednesday but that the pastry chef had been AWOL for two days hence the small list of desserts. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner but closed on Sundays. Bakery too.
