'Paradise' enjoys a unique position in that, it is the only ‘ Fine Cantonese Chinese ‘ establishment that features above average Dim Sum offerings in North York. As such, even with an elevated price point that matches some of its Richmond Hill/Markham more exorbitant peers, business is brisk for both lunch and dinner.
After almost exhausting most decent Chinese eateries up north. For a change of scenery, the family decided to take my visiting Mother-in-law to try out Paradise. The relatively extensive Dim Sum menu contained most popular and traditional offerings with a few unique and hard to find dishes. Casing point: A rice congee of Sun Dried Pollock, Peanuts and Salted Pork Bones; Home-made silken Tofu dessert with sweet ginger sauce and a supposedly delicious ‘Chewy Pumpkin pancake with Durian filling’. This latter concoction……one either loves it or avoid it like a plague!!
Overall, our Dim Sum focused luncheon experience was pleasantly enjoyable. Although, besides the really superb and tasty rice congee ( reminiscent of Hong Kong’s best ), there were no stand-out candidates worthy of special mentioning. However, on the whole, none of the above average quality dishes we ordered can be faulted. Har Gow, my usual measuring yard-stick for Dim Sum quality was acceptable with intact morsels, the chewy wrapper encasing a juicy, crunchy shrimp filling. However, the slight under-seasoning of the shrimp unfortunately dampened the enjoyment of an otherwise near perfect creation ( by GTA standard ). IMO, Yu_Seafood’s mega-sized version is still the best in form and taste. BTW, my Mother-in-law enjoyed the Durian pancake so much, she alone gobbled down three!!
Lastly, at around $20 per person, price point is surprisingly reasonable. Even cheaper than down town's ' Pearl '!
Definitely, one of the better Dim Sum destination in the GTA that can rub-shoulder with some of Richmond Hill and Markham’s best.
