Par-boiled onions with sour cream and celery seed

Growing up, mom made a dish where I think she par-boiled the onions and mixed in sour cream and celery seed. I can't help but think there was more to it. This was a side dish. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and have a better recipe than I have? I think she may have done the same with cucumbers, but did not par-boil the cukes.
