Finally went to Papazzio:
Very good all around - the host was tremendously nice and welcoming; the waiter pleasant, prompt and knowledgable.
The decor was very nice - homey, yet a bit on the "trendy" side.
Food: great. Portabello, (the best I've ever had) goat cheese and tomato w/balsamic - very good. Lentil soup - very tasty. The Veal w/ capers and lemon butter sauce was outstanding - great sauce and some of the best (paper thin, so tender, like butter!) veal I've ever had. Fettucini alfredo - excellent - a bit more creamy than cheesy, different, but excellent. Desserts were fine - lemon sorbet and tortufo - a lot of whippped cream with both (nice). The cakes did look good, though.
Nice menu - apps, salads, meat (beef, pork, veal, lamb), chicken, fish, and pasta - enough choices in each.
The wine - we had a nice Aussie Shiraz - only $22, with a list of maybe 10-15 wines all for $18 - VERY NICE!
Overall, great place, that was busy the night through (not bad on a Wed).
FYI: The owner is opening up 39 East, a block up, where the old movie theater used to be (39 ave and Bell) - it will be French, Italian, Thai, and Japanese "fusion." They have been trying to open for a year (pain in the neck landlord), but are now gunning for Mother's Day. Would be nice if this place is supported, too. We need more high quality places in Bayside (and Queens)!!
