Papagus Chicago

Food Nut | May 2, 200409:32 PM

Mr. Food Nut and I received a $50 LEYE gift card. Not a few weeks later, we got a $20 off coupon for either Papagus, Mon Ami Gabi, or Scoozi. We chose Papagus for a variety of reasons...some being variety on the menu, price, and the fact we eat Italian all the time and had steak and fries already this week.

I don't have anything BAD to say about the experience. We were pleased with the saganaki and the bread spreads combo appetizer. The spreads we chose were cucumber yogurt, eggplant, and feta. The feta had a nice spicy kick and the other two just standard, nothing more or less than you'd expect.

The entrees....I had the roasted chicken with spaghetti and Greek cheese. The pasta was perfectly al dente. I thought the 12.95 price tag was a little steep for what it's worth, but I really enjoyed the simple flavors which included browned butter. Mr. Food Nut had a sampler platter and enjoyed everything on it: Greek Chicken, Dolmades, Moussaka, Greek Potatoes, and Spanokopita.

For dessert I tried the Lemon cake with Greek yogurt. It was quite nice with candied lemon peel and lemon syrup.

Service was a bit slow, but attentive.

Would I go back without the gift card and certificate...prolly not.

I really enjoy the rooftop deck and appetizers at Pegasus in Greek town....can't wait for better weather!
