Papa Frank's, Winooski

It has been awhile since I made a stop at this long running landmark. So off I went with my daughters ages 14 and 3.

What does $19.88 (pre-tip)* buy these days ? Well, at Papa Frank's it gets you the following : a cup of cream of broccoli soup, a small antipasto, two soft drinks, one apple juice, a large cheese pizza, a side of meatballs, and a dish of strawberry ice cream ( remember, I was dining with my daughters aged 14 (vegetarian) and 3 ( a young "cooker" as she likes to say). Was the food great ? No. The soup was hot, fairly flavorful, and simply seasoned. The antipasto was iceberg, shredded mozzarella, a couple olilves, a slice or two of pepperoni and salami, a cherry tomato, and a slice or two of cucumber with a simple house Italian. The pizza a had nice crust (slightly soggy at the point but crisp at the crust end. The sauce was decent and the cheese was properly melted and portioned. The fountain sodas (Coke products) were fine (no refills but only .85 for a large glass, maybe 20 oz). The dish of strawberry ice cream was decent and was a good size scoop. Service was quick and friendly. The bathrooms are small (my daughter asked why the "potty" is in the closet) and COLD but clean.

The verdict: Papa Frank's is worth a visit for any family looking for a decent meal at throwback prices. I would hate to see it replaced by a Quiznos..................

* there was a discount of about $5.00 for using the dreaded Entertainment coupon
