Papa Cristos the second time around

I often pass by this place on Pico at Normandie, and I finally ate there about nine months ago. I ordered lamb chops. Big mistake. I had just eaten some of the most amazing lamb chops in Glendale at Elena's (thank you Thi I dream of those babies), and these weren't even close. Disappointing. Crossed this place off my list.

Now and then there are posts waxing on about Papa Cristos, so yesterday I decided to give it a second chance. I ordered the beef shish kabob sandwich and a greek salad.

The greek salad was good, mounds of feta, crispy cucumber and no skimping on the olives. I'm not a fan of the dressing which tasted too much like just vinegar and dill. But the beef kabob... oh my. Talk about perfect. The beef was tender, (how many tough kabobs have you eaten in your life?), the pita was pillowly soft, the sandwich was filled with grilled onions and peppers and chopped tomatoes. Perfection.

They have a deli case with meats/cheeses and sweets, I called my mom and asked her which of the four kinds of halavah would she like? Marble. Bought a tiny slice for me too. It was eaten in the car before I got home.
